Man in critical condition with 'serious neck injuries' after being attacked by dog in his own home

A man is in critical condition after a Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog attacked him in his home in Sheffield.

The 33-year-old is in hospital with serious neck injuries, South Yorkshire Police said.

Police were called to Spring Close View, in Gleadless Valley, around 4.20pm on Monday.

They seized the dog, which is believed to belong to two brothers who live at the flat.

The breed was banned in 1991, but owners are allowed to keep their dogs if they are not deemed to be dangerous.

A neighbour told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I just heard a bit of commotion and I heard someone run past and say 'I'll get the ambulance'.

"The next thing I saw the ambulance and they were wheeling him out.

"He looked in a bad way. There was blood all over his face."

Another neighbour said: "All I heard was a load of noise on the landing. I looked up and he's said 'The dog's got his neck'."

A 36-year-old man was arrested under the Dangerous Dogs Act and later bailed.
