A Devon man's hand has been severed after it became tangled in a rope which was pulling a rubber ring at sea off Torquay.
The 45-year-old, from Ivybridge, was riding on the inflatable as it was towed by a jet-ski.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said his hand was cut off and lost in the water.
He said: "The man was being towed on a large inflatable rubber ring by the privately owned jet-ski.
"After becoming entangled in the tow rope, the man's hand was severed."
The man, who has not been identified, was taken to Torbay District Hospital after the incident at around 3.30pm on Sunday.
