The two men who died at a Manchester hotel, sparking a murder investigation, have been named by police.

Hayden Fitzpatrick, 21, was killed after apparently falling five stories from a communal hallway at the Britannia Hotel, in the city centre, earlier this week.

Police responding to the incident then discovered the body of 29-year-old Thomas Noakes in a first floor room which had been booked just hours earlier.

Detectives have named Mr Fitzpatrick, of Manchester, in connection with the murder of Mr Noakes, who lived in nearby Eccles.

They said they were not treating the death of Mr Fitzpatrick himself as suspicious. They are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

The pair are thought to have known each other after working together for an insurance firm, the Manchester Evening News reports.

The room was booked at 1.40am with police being called shortly after 5.25am.

Paying tribute to Mr Noakes, his family said: “Thomas was a fantastic, amazing, loveable man who made us all laugh and was always the life and soul of the party. He was a much-loved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend."

They added: “It is with great difficulty that his friends and family have to say goodbye to someone who touched so many lives, and was loved by everyone he met. He will be missed so much but never forgotten for the fun, loving and caring person that he was.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, he was a customer service manager at the Swinton Group in the city.

Speaking earlier in the investigation, Detective Inspector Andy Butterworth, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This is a complex incident that has sadly led to the death of two men. My thoughts and sympathies are with the friends and family of the men.

"Although the investigation remains in its early stages and we are keeping an open mind into the full circumstances, we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. I would appeal to anyone who might have seen something, or those with information that might help this investigation, to please get in touch with police."

A spokesman for Britannia Hotels said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with the families concerned."
