Theresa May, the Home Secretary, will announce by 16 October whether Gary McKinnon can be extradited to the United States, his lawyer said yesterday.

The US wants to try Mr McKinnon, of Wood Green, north London, for hacking into military computers 10 years ago. He would face up to 60 years in jail.
