Missing radio host Peter Rowell found safe

A popular radio host who disappeared after the death of a close relative has been found safe and well, police said.

Police mounted a search after Peter Rowell, 52, failed to turn up to host his BBC Radio Bristol show.

He was said to be in a "depressed" and "vulnerable" state.

Avon and Somerset Police said Mr Rowell was found in the Cumbria area yesterday and was receiving medical treatment.

Mr Rowell was thought to have been depressed following the recent death of his father.

He had left his home in Wickwar, South Gloucestershire at around 8.30am on Tuesday and then parked his car at Morrisons supermarket in Yate.

He was believed to have left the car park on foot at around 9.45am and police thought he might have been heading towards Yate station.

Police had received reports that Mr Rowell might have travelled to the Lake District and liaised with Cumbria Police in the search.

The BBC presenter originally became well-known in the West Country for fronting shows and news items for ITV West.

Tim Pemberton, managing editor of BBC Radio Bristol, had said staff were "extremely concerned" by his disappearance.
