Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused traffic disruption for a second day in Newcastle.

Northumbria Police closed the Central Motorway in the city earlier today due to flooding.

Other roads have were also affected by the downpour, which saw lightning flash across the Tyneside sky.

A summer thunderstorm yesterday saw roads closed in Newcastle and flash flooding.

Heavy hailstorms turned parts of the country white.
