An investigation was under way today after a light plane crashed on farmland, killing one person, police said.

The pilot is believed to have been the only person on board when the crash happened near the village of Old Buckenham in Norfolk yesterday evening.

Police were called to the scene at 6.20pm along with the ambulance and fire services.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said: "An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is under way.

"It is currently unclear if the plane was coming in to land or taking off.

"A seal has been placed around the crash location and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch have been informed and will be attending the scene in due course."
