Park Royal fire: Major blaze at north-west London warehouse causes rush hour disruption

A huge fire broke out at a warehouse in north-west London in the early hours of this morning, which is causing rush-hour disruption in the area.

Around 100 firefighters in 15 engines were called to the scene on the industrial estate on Western Road, in Park Royal, at around 12.30am.

The fire was still not fully extinguished at around 9am today – the London Fire Brigade confirmed. The ground and first floors have been burning as well as parts of the roof.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known and it will take at least a few days to determine what had sparked it – a spokesperson for the brigade said.

Rush hour traffic is building up around the area as the B4492 closed and buses are being diverted.

Station manager Bill Dunn said: “This is likely to be a protracted incident and will probably be causing disruption into the morning rush hour so avoid the area if you can.”

This is the second major fire in the capital on two consecutive days.

Yesterday, an underground electrical fire in Holborn – believed to have been caused by cables – erupted on the street and created thick clouds of black toxic smoke.

Around 2,000 lawyers and judges were evacuated from the Royal Courts of Justice in Lincoln’s Inn Fields and neighbouring law chambers.
