Parsons Green explosion: Footage appears to show bucket on fire on tube following incident

Footage has emerged of a bucket on fire in the aftermath of an explosion at Parsons Green Underground station.

The video shows orange flames licking out of a supermarket bag holding a white bucket just inside the door of a tube carriage.

A shoulder bag sits next to it, apparently abandoned. There does not appear to be extensive damage to the carriage.

Confused bystanders watch through the windows of the carriage doors, before an official arrives and instructs them: "Right guys, let's get away and let's move right down the end of the platform."

Police and paramedics were called at around 8.20am to Parsons Green station in Fulham. Witnesses described seeing people with burns and, separately, injuries caused when passengers rushed to escape the station.

The Met said: "It is too early to confirm the cause of the fire, which will be subject to the investigation that is now under way by the Met's Counter Terrorism Command."

Witnesses told of an “extremely heavy police presence” and “quite a few people injured”, potentially including facial burns. A number of injuries appeared to have stemmed from a crush of people trying to leave the station.

Social media reports claimed a bag had exploded. One reported witness said: “Fireball flew down carriage and we just jumped out open door.”

London Ambulance Service said it had sent a hazardous response team to the scene.
