A South Wales primary school has given one of its retiring teachers the perfect send-off with pupils performing a flashmob at play-time.

Mrs Margaret Gabica, who has worked as a teacher at St Julian’s Primary School in Newport, Wales was surprised with a dance routine performed by the school’s Reception, Year One and Year Two pupils while she was working her final breaktime duty on Wednesday.

The routine, performed to Mrs Gabica’s favourite song "Losing You" from the Lion King musical, was created by her fellow teachers, Chloe Butcher and Hetty Browne.

Mrs Gabica told the South Wales Argus: “It was completely beyond anything I could have imagined or dreamed of.”

“I have taught all of these children and just looking at their faces they were so intent with what they were doing I was so impressed.

“It will be something I will cherish forever.”

A spokesman for the school said: “Mrs Gabica is retiring from the staff after 25 years and the staff decided they wanted to give her a really good send off.

“We asked her to do one last break duty and then the flashmob took place. It was a really lovely occasion.”
