Pubs and bars could be allowed to stay open late for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee weekend, the Home Secretary said yesterday.
Theresa May said the extension would allow pubs, bars, community and village halls and other licensed venues in England and Wales to open until 1am on the nights of Friday 1 June and Saturday 2 June next year.
Ms May said late-night drinking "can lead to crime and disorder and public nuisance" so only a "modest relaxation" of licensing hours was proposed. A consultation on the plans will now be held.
