Fears are rising as the massive search operation for a junior doctor who has not been seen since Friday continues after her hoodie was found on a Devon beach close to where her car was found abandoned.

Volunteers searching for Dr Rose Polge, 25, say they found the jumper on rocks on a beach in Torquay on Sunday evening.

Police are in the process of trying to confirm it belonged to her.

Dr Polge has not been seen since Friday, and more than 100 search and rescue personnel have been searching for her, along with volunteers.

The search for the doctor, who works at Torbay Hospital, has been hampered by strong winds.

Police search manager, PC Pete Giesens, said: “We are very concerned for Rose due to the circumstances of her going missing.

“We are concerned for her welfare and her disappearance is out of character.”

Police have not yet revealed any details of why they think Dr Polge went missing.

Inspector Simon Jenkinson, of Devon & Cornwall Police said:"We are not looking at this time at any criminality.

"We don't consider there is any evidence she has been abducted and we are concentrating on where her car was found.

"I am not aware of anybody hearing a scream or anything like that and we are not thinking anybody else is involved.

"We are not able to give details of her frame of mind. The only person who really knows why she has gone missing is Rose.

"We are looking for a missing person and are keeping an open mind about the circumstances."
