Police and mountain rescue teams are searching for a missing British tourist in Italy.

The 46-year-old, named as Glenys Sylvia Turner, from Derby, has not been seen for 10 days according to reports after going walking near Lake Como.

Daily regional newspaper La Provincia reported that the alarm was raised by the hotel where Ms Turner was staying in Griante, on the shore of Lake Como.

It is feared that she may have fallen from a steep path leading to the Church of San Martino on a mountainside above Griante, the newspaper said.

Police and mountain rescue workers were said to have spent the weekend searching for Ms Turner.

Her documents and clothes were reported to have been left in the hotel room.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "The Italian police are investigating the disappearance of a British national in the area of Lake Como in Italy.

"We are providing consular assistance to the family in the UK and are liaising closely with the Italian authorities."
