The unsung: The imam and the beer-lover

Unsung heroes including an imam at a Lancashire jail, a beer lover and a Dorset bus driver are recognised with MBEs:

* Michael Hardman, 62, for his 37 years of campaigning for traditional beer. He started the Campaign for Real Ale after bemoaning the state of British beer during a holiday in Ireland.

* Muhammad Irfan Faizi Chishti, from Rochdale, for his work with inmates at Buckley Hall jail, in Lancashire, where he takes Friday prayers, as well as running a community radio station.

* James Newton, from Blandford, Dorset, was rewarded after 13 years as a school bus driver (and 43 years on the buses), for giving "confidence to even the youngest travellers".

* Rosemary Meeke, from Tilshead, Wiltshire, for her work with soldiers, encouraging them to send home recorded bedtime stories to their children while there are away on operations.

* Caroline and Robert Rejdak, from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, for fostering 117 children over 30 years. A citation said that "they have given hope to many children, rescuing them and providing a healing environment".
