A crash involving three lorries forced the closure of one of the Dartford tunnels today, the Highways Agency said.
Heavy congestion is reported to be building up after the west tunnel linking the M25 between Essex and Kent was closed following the accident just after 10am.
A Highways Agency spokesman said no injuries had so far been reported and the east tunnel remained open.
He said: "The final vehicle is being removed at the moment and an inspection is taking place but so far there have been no signs of structural damage."
