A man has been arrested after a toddler fell out of a first-floor window at a house in Gillingham, Kent.

The boy, who is not of school age, fell from the upstairs window of a property in Napier Road at about 9.34am on Monday morning, Kent Police said.

He was flown to hospital by helicopter, but his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The man, who is in his 40s and from Medway, has been arrested on suspicion of neglect. He remained in custody on Monday afternoon.

The house was initially cordoned off by officers, but they were later told to remove the blue and white police tape so as not to upset children at a primary school on the opposite side of the road.

A police spokesman said: “Officers attended the scene alongside crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service and the child was taken to a London hospital for treatment to injuries which are not described as being serious.

“Inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.”
