A toddler was in a serious condition in hospital last night after falling from a balcony at Liverpool’s Hilton hotel during a wedding reception.

The two-year-old boy was given first aid by shocked staff and taken to hospital by ambulance at about 4pm on Saturday.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said he had fallen from a mezzanine floor into the hotel lobby.

“The child sustained head injuries as a result of the fall and he remains in a serious condition in hospital at this time,” he added.

Witnesses reported seeing several police cars, ambulances, paramedics and an incident response unit surrounding the hotel after the accident.

A spokesperson for Hilton Liverpool confirmed the incident and said hotel staff “immediately” administered first aid before the ambulance arrived.

"The safety and security of our guests is of paramount importance and we are liaising closely with the child's parents, police and local hospital,” he added.

“Our primary concern is the child's wellbeing and we continue to offer our support during this difficult time.”
