A TV weatherman who says he was forced to wrestle a “violent” woman after she attacked his daughter’s nursery has accused police of not responding quickly enough.

Ian Fergusson, a weather presenter on BBC Points West, described the incident on Twitter and criticised Avon and Somerset Police.

He said his two daughters, aged one and three, were “terrified” by the event which took place at their nursery in Clifton.

Avon and Somerset Police responded to Mr Fergusson’s Tweets, saying:

They also suggested he contact them and make an official complaint if he had not done so already.

Responding to concerned Twitter user @southweststokie,Mr Fergusson said his three-year-old daughter had gone to bed worried about the ordeal.

He also responded to meteorologist Stephanie Ball, who asked the presenter whether he thought the woman recognised him, but he said the attack was “just random”.

According to The Bristol Post, Avon and Somerset Police said: “We received a call at 7:14pm regarding concerns for the welfare of a woman at a property in the Clifton area of Bristol.

“We arrived 12 minutes later, the woman was taken to a specialist unit at Southmead Hospital where she received the necessary care.”
