Two people were still in hospital today with serious injuries after a road crash which killed one person in the early hours of Christmas day.

Police said they were called to the A3102 Bath Road outside the Cooper Tires factory in Melksham, Wiltshire, at about 3.30am yesterday.

They said the crash involved a single vehicle, a blue Audi A6 with five people.

One passenger died and two others were taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with serious injuries. The road was closed for six hours.

Police have appealed for witnesses and anyone who saw the Audi before the crash to contact them.

The crash happened on the day two young brothers died and their mother was injured after their car crashed on a busy motorway.

The boys, aged four and 10, were killed after the car they were travelling in along the M6 motorway near Stoke-on-Trent crashed and overturned.

A 32-year-old woman who was also in the vehicle, believed to have been travelling from the Thames Valley area, was also killed.

Another female passenger was injured and taken to hospital for treatment, where she was in a stable condition, a police spokeswoman said.

Police said the crash happened on the northbound carriageway of the M6 near junction 15 at about 11.25am.
