UK weather: Mix of sunny spells and heavy rain forecast

Temperatures are expected to stay in the low to mid teens

Wednesday should see spells of sunshine in many parts of the country (PA)

Skies are expected to clear across parts of the country on Wednesday, with sunny spells expected despite cool temperatures.

The morning will see some showers in Northern Ireland and Scotland’s central belt, but should mostly brighten by the afternoon. By this time, eastern England can expect heavy downpours, according to the Met Office.

A flood warning remains in force from Tuesday night at River Seven at Marton, in the northeast of England, following heavy rainfall.

Temperatures are expected to peak in the low to mid teens, with areas in the south likely to hit 15C. The southwest will get the best of the sunshine, with light winds.

Overnight, the occasional shower can be expected around East Anglia, with one or two drifting further inland.

Thursday will see temperatures fall, due to the clear skies and winds. A frosty morning is forecast, particularly in the northwest of England, and patches of fog are also likely.

However, it will be a drier and sunnier day for most of the country than we’ve been having recently, with the west particularly staying clear of rain throughout the day. A few showers will continue in the east, while temperatures will hover around 12 to 13C.

The week should finish off with most of the country remaining dry, with the sunniest weather in the southwest while the northeast gets a fair amount of cloud cover.
