UK weather: Met Office issues warning as freezing fog set to disrupt rush-hour traffic
Lingering fog expected to cause trouble for commuters
Most parts of the UK will wake up to freezing or near-freezing conditions on Monday morning before temperatures peak around 4C by midday, pushing higher in coastal areas.
A yellow weather warning is in place across much of England for freezing fog which the Met Office warns could linger until late-morning and disrupt rush hour traffic.
The northeast along with Devon and Cornwall and parts of the northwest are the only parts of England not covered by the warning.
Showers are expected in coastal areas later on but most parts should remain dry during the daytime on Monday.
Yellow weather warnings are in place for eastern and northern Scotland where heavy rain this evening is expected to cause some disruption to bus and train services.
Elsewhere this evening, freezing fog will return along with frost, particularly in the southeast of England.
Moving into Tuesday, rain across Scotland is forecast to move south to hit northern England while Wales and southwest England will see some showers.
Tuesday is set to be a warmer day for most though parts of the southeast will see those freezing temperatures again in the morning with fog lingering.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, clouds will move in and some strong breezes are expected, especially on the coast of Wales and along the southwest coast of England.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, the Met Office forecasts a dry day Wednesday with temperatures picking up slightly before rain edges in from the west going in to Thursday.
