UK weather: Temperatures to remain cool over weekend, says Met Office

A low pressure front will bring cold air and rain on Friday night and into Saturday

The UK will continue to experience cooler weather over the next few days, with heavy showers expected in some areas.

A low pressure front, which will head south from Scotland, will bring cold air and rain along with it on Friday night and into Saturday.

Alex Deakin, meteorologist at the Met Office: “The weather has definitely changed, and there’s no sign of a return to warm and sunny weather, certainly for the next few days.”

On Friday, there will be “lots of showers” across the UK in stark contrast to the sunny weather at the start of this week.

Scotland in particular will see persistent rain and increasingly strong winds by Friday afternoon.

“It’s certainly going to feel cool, temperatures struggling to get into the teens in many places,” Mr Deakin said.

The highest temperatures will occur in the south-east but are not predicted to rise above 18C.

This period of cooler weather will continue on Saturday, with most places set to experience temperatures in the low teens. However, it may feel cooler than this because of the gusty winds.

The weather will then improve slightly on Sunday, as conditions become drier and less windy.

Last week, temperatures soared to almost 30C, with the Scottish Highlands recording the hottest day of the year so far at 28.3 C.

The Met Office recently confirmed that the UK had its sunniest spring since records began in 1929.

According to the Met Office, the UK had more than 573 hours of sunshine between 1 March and 27 May this year, almost 20 hours more than 1948, which had previously held the record.
