Britain is set for "good weather for a wedding" over the weekend, with bright and sunny weather forecast.

“It is going to be mostly settled this week and that will continue on in to the weekend,” a Met Office spokesperson said. “It will be mostly dry with sunny spells with perhaps a northerly or north-easterly breeze.

“We can’t rule out a shower, although, to be honest, that’s looking quite unlikely at the moment. Temperatures will be about normal for the time of year with highs of 17 or 18 C and during the sunny spells it will feel pleasantly warm."

The forecaster added: "It’s looking like good weather for a wedding – you wouldn't’t want it to be too hot,” .”“There’s no signs of any severe weather. It doesn't’t look like it will be a washout or really windy or anything like that.

“Going into Saturday night some parts may see some rain, particularly towards the north-west but, for the wedding itself, it should stay dry.”

Ahead of that, temperatures are set to reach a balmy 21C in the south on Monday and a potential 23C on Tuesday.

Although there is an expected drop after that, bookmakers have cut the odds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day being the hottest of the year so far.

John Hill, of Coral, said: “The betting suggests Prince Harry and Meghan may have picked the perfect date for their wedding.”

With less than a week to go until the big day, Queen Elizabeth has signed the formal instrument of consent for the couple's nuptials, in accordance with the 2013 Succession to the Crown Act.

The ornate letter reads: “NOW KNOW YE that We have consented and do by these Presents signify Our Consent to the contracting of Matrimony between Our Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales, K.C.V.O., and Rachel Meghan Markle.”

As Prince Harry is sixth-in-line to the throne, he must receive the formal approval of the monarch, his grandmother, before he can wed.
