Parts of the UK will be hotter than Ibiza as temperatures soar to double the average for this time of year.

March is set to go out with a balmy bang as the South East hits 22C and London reaches the dizzy heights of 20C.

This is due to warm air moving north from Iberia, which will edge south and eastwards towards the end of the week.

Temperatures in Ibiza on the other hand will peak today at 19C, significantly chillier than some parts of Britain.

The sunshine might be slightly short-lived, however, and although it is expected to remain well above average for areas in the South, it is thought there will be a wet start to the weekend.

"Saturday is looking quite showery across the whole of the UK, although Sunday will be a pretty decent day for most with calm and bright conditions," Met Office forecaster Alex Burkill said.

Belfast, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh will reach highs of 14C.

There is, however, good news for those who are planning to watch the Oxford-Cambridge boat race on the Thames - sunshine is expected to return for the race, with highs of 17C.
