Those across the UK will wake up to a mild morning on Tuesday, with mist and fog patches giving way to bright spells later on.

Though fewer showers than yesterday, it will be a misty and murky start for some in the country, particularly in the east.

The fog will take a while to lift in east Scotland and across the north east, with increasing brightness going into the afternoon, according to the Met Office.

After heavy overnight rain in Wales and the southwest, patches of rain will continue across the country with sunny spells forecast throughout the south and east later on.

This brightness going into Tuesday afternoon will give way to temperatures between 13 and 15 degrees. The south coast and Norwich will enjoy highs of 14 degrees while the lowest temperature of 10 degrees will be seen in Loch Rannoch, on the west coast of Scotland.

The Met Office predict bursts of rain will accompany bright sunshine before winds pick up in the northwest before dusk.

Northern Ireland will remain dry before heavy rain pushes overnight into the western Isles. This Atlantic plume of rain is forecast to spread into Glasgow by 6am on Wednesday morning.

Though mild for most overnight, the band of westerly rain will have moved across the UK by Wednesday causing a midweek downpour and windy conditions that will remain throughout the rest of the week, particularly in the south of England.

Brighter weather on Thursday will give way for the return of wind and rain that pushes across the UK into Friday, with the Met Office predicting a wet and windy weekend.
