A video of an unmanned drone, dubbed the DomiCopter delivering pizza hints at a more benign use for war technology

Surly pizza delivery boys on rickety old mopeds could be a thing of the past after pizza delivery company Domino's trialled a novel way of getting their takeaway food to customers.

A video of an unmanned drone, dubbed the DomiCopter, is unlikely to be anything more than a PR stunt but raises the prospect of using drone technology, more often deployed in war-like situations, in a more benign manner.

A Domino's franchise in the United Kingdom posted a video earlier this week showing the 'DomiCopter' delivering pizza's in the company's Heatwave bags.

The video footage shows the drone delivering pizza while being controlled by a user on the ground.

‘At Dominos we’re always looking to innovate and find new ways to deliver our pizza and a DomiCopter could fit the bill perfectly,’ Simon Wallis from Domino’s told the Pocket Lint website.

‘What better way to totally avoid the traffic than to fly – if anything this will now make us even quicker! We think it’s a great way to reinforce that Domino’s go to more lengths than anyone to deliver great pizza.’
