Audience members evacuated from the Apollo Theatre last night following the partial collapse of the roof spoke about their experiences.

The roof collapsed mid-way through a performance of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time forcing terrified theatregoers to leave the building.

A stream of dust and debris showered down onto the audience, including chunks of the ceiling and a chandelier. Dozens were left injured when the ceiling started to crumble and fall onto them but luckily no one was killed.

One woman who was sat close to the back of the theatre said: "We heard some creaking and then we heard a lot of screaming and I think that everyone in the theatre thought it was part of the show."

She added: "I've seen most people covered in dust but a lot of people covered in blood as well."

Another member of the audience said: "We just thought it was sound effects of the play. Then we looked up and the whole ceiling, it was like slow motion, came down."
