A man has died after falling down the chimney of a seven-storey building in London.

The incident took place at a residential property in Great Cumberland Place in Westminster.

Police discovered the body of a 20-year-old man shortly before 1am.

London Fire Brigade, Air Ambulance and Ambulance Service also attended but the man could not be saved.

Metropolitan Police say that they believe he was sitting on the roof of the property when he fell backwards into the chimney.

The man’s family has been notified.

Inspector Ian Bond of Westminster Police said: “This was a difficult and protracted recovery and is an excellent example of partnership working between all three emergency services.

“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family at this sad time.”
