WIN A YEAR'S SUPPLY OF BURGUNDY AND VISIT THE VINEYARDS
We have a prize that will put a little fizz into your life every day for the next year - 365 bottles of award winning Cremant De Bourgogne. Cremant de what? Well, in Burgundy this Novemeber they are holding a week of celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the genesis of this remarkable sparkling wine and the creation of the Cremant appellation.
A white wine made by the methode traditionelle, Cremant de Bourgogne has long suffered the label of being the poor man's fizz. But not any more. The best of these fine wines offer the mousse, ripe fruits, biscuity nose and long delicate finish that are the hallmarks of classic bubbly. And no individual producer does it better than Denis Fouquerand, an independent vigneron who lives in the shadow of the breathtaking pre-renaissance chateau of La Rochepot (pictured), the village that gave birth to Cremant.
Our winner will receive 31 cases (365 bottles plus 7 more in case of emergencies!) of his 1992 Brut Cremant, which beat numerous non-vintage champagnes to a silver medal at this year's prestigious Wine Magazine International Wine Challenge.
Our prize also includes a week in Burgundy for the winner plus companion, staying at the elegant Hotel Le Monrachet in the Puligny-Monrachet.
They will meet Monsieur Fouquerand, visit his cellars - and those of several other fine winemakers in Mersault, Pernand-Vergelesses and Gevrey- Chambertin - and generally participate in the 20th anniversary celebrations. The last day of their trip will be the Sunday of the famous Hospices de Beaune wine auction, where this beautifully preserved town is en fete and the streets are filled with wine and festivity.
Ten runners up will each receive a dozen bottles of Cremant de Bourgogne by Denis Fouquerand.
As well as filling your cellar for at least a year, our prize offers a privileged entree into the heart of Burgundy. To be in with a chance of winning, answer the following simple question and send it, along with your name and address, to: Independent on Sunday, Burgundy Competition, PO Box 83, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, AL7 1TT.
QUESTION: What is the name of the Burgundian town, the centre of its wine trade, that is home to the 15th Century hospice called L'Hotel Dieu?
The holiday must be taken from 13 November-20 November 1995. Closing date is 28 August 1995. Winners will be the first eleven correct entries drawn. Normal Newspaper Publishing plc rules apply, with no cash alternative. The Editor's decision is final.
