Winter closing in as mercury drops further

Much of Britain will experience a cold snap over the coming week as winter closes in.

The Met Office has confirmed temperatures will continue to drop over the next week until the weather becomes much colder and drier.

Double-figure temperatures will cling on today and tomorrow, with highs of 13C and an average of 10C, but Friday will mark a seasonal dip, marking a return of regular overnight frosts and bracing mornings.

The Met has said there's no health risk yet associated with the biting conditions, but they will continue to monitor the cold's effects on citizens in collaboration with the Department of Health and the Health Protection Agency.

Large sections of the country enjoyed a gloriously sunny remembrance Sunday, but overnight temperatures were expected to drop as low as 1C in urban areas and below freezing in the country.
