Workers 'devastated' by printing closure
Workers have been left "devastated" at the closure of a printing firm's two sites, threatening the loss of 160 jobs, union leaders said today.
Unite claimed its members at BemroseBooth in Derby had no prior warning of the news and accused the company of a "blatant disregard" of the law.
Regional officer Kathy Brooks said: "This is devastating news for our members and their families.
"Given the proud history of BemroseBooth's presence in Derby and the dedication and hard work that our members have contributed to the success of the enterprise in the past, we are shocked and appalled at the manner in which the company has chosen to deal with this.
"This is another hammer blow for manufacturing in the UK, for our members, their families and for the local economy. Our members are entitled to feel betrayed by the company they have worked for, many of them for many years."
Unite said it was taking legal advice before deciding its next move.
