Suspected human bones have been found near a pond, police have said.

A fisherman discovered the two bones in Parish Lane, Pease Pottage, near Crawley, West Sussex.

Police search teams have scoured the area around the pond and in woodland nearby, but no further bones have been found.

Sussex Police said the bones have been taken away for analysis and they appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A police spokesman said: “The find is being treated as unexplained rather than suspicious at this time, but police inquiries, which are at an early stage, are continuing.”

Anyone with information about discovery last Monday is asked to call West Sussex CID on 101, quoting Operation Carlisle, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
