John Davis, 30, was jailed for 12 years at Cardiff Crown Court for an arson attack last September in which four police officers were severely burned. Davis cut a gas pipe with an axe and hacksaw in a suicide attempt at his house in Risca, Gwent, and escaped injury because the officers shielded him when he ignited the gas with a cigarette lighter.
