Widespread blizzards, flood warnings, and hazardous road conditions arrived with the New Year yesterday. The National Rivers Authority issued red warnings for the Suffolk and Essex coasts as emergency services in Norfolk dealt with floods in Crome r and Wells-next-the-Sea.

As blizzards swept across the country the RAC said no area had been left untouched. Two inches of snow fell on the M2 and M20 in Kent in an hour. Roads in Wiltshire and Cambridgeshire were at a standstill with a 20 car pile-up on the A1 indicating the severity of the conditions. The London Weather Centre predicts further snow today with milder conditions tomorrow.
