Charlotte Hughes, Britain's oldest person, died in her sleep aged 115 at St David's Nursing Home, Redcar, Cleveland. She was born the day in 1877 that Alexander Graham Bell launched his first telephone company. She became a teacher at 13, but only married after retiring 50 years later. The Guinness Book of Records is searching for the current oldest person.
