Michael Heseltine, President of the Board of Trade should intervene to protect the 'unique character' and editorial independence of the Independent and Independent on Sunday, according to an Early Day Motion.

The motion sponsored by several Labour MPs urges that 'all genuine bidders' for the titles should be given 'a proper opportunity' without undue pressure for any particular deal with another newspaper group.
