IRA bombs checkpoint near school

Teachers dived for cover during a mortar attack on workers building a large security checkpoint near the Irish border yesterday.

The IRA fired six mortar bombs over a Roman Catholic primary school at Cloghoge, just off the main Belfast-Dublin Road in Co Down, but three did not explode. The parish priest, Fr Henry Devlin, said: 'It was like an atomic bomb.'
