IRA bombers injured three soldiers and at least four civilians in a mortar attack on a security checkpoint in south Armagh yesterday. The attack came as the loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force said it killed a Catholic workman whose body was found at Belfast's Harland and Wolff shipyard.
The UVF also admitted a bomb attack on the Armagh home of the mother of a former Sinn Fein councillor. A 2lb bomb was thrown into the living room of her house. It lodged in blinds and failed to explode.
