The IRA last night shot a 66-year-old Ulster woman at her home after mistaking her for a police detective. The woman was hit in the arm and chest after gunmen fired through a window of her home in the Woodford Estate on the Newry Road, Armagh City.

The woman's condition was 'serious but stable'. The IRA apologised for the shooting.

The attack came hours after the IRA shot and critically wounded a Protestant man in Newry, Co Down.
