An investigation was launched after reports that two passenger jets came within seconds of a mid-air collision over Lockerbie. The Civil Aviation Authority said investigators were examining radar tapes. But a spokesman could not confirm that air controllers reported the jets passed within two miles of each other at 500mph last Friday.
