The world champion Garry Kasparov drew with Latvia's Alexei Shirov yesterday to virtually guarantee victory in the Linares grandmaster chess tournament. Kasparov, undefeated in 12 games, has nine points, one ahead of the Indian Viswanathan Anand with one game to play.
