THE confrontation between Labour's leadership and the unions escalated as front benchers rallied round the party leader's call for one member one vote. Robin Cook, David Blunkett, Neil Kinnock, Gordon Brown and Tony Blair wrote to constituency parties, appealing for support for John Smith's plan for the selection of constituency candidates. The chief critic John Edmonds, of the GMB general union, hit back in today's Sunday Mirror describing Labour as 'dazed'.
