Six top London law firms are embarking on a project set in motion by Liberty, the civil rights campaigning organisation, to take on test cases free of charge. It is a first for such a centralised pro bono scheme, which has the support of the Lord Chancellor, the Law Society and the Bar Council. Two of the firms involved, Pannone & Partners and Mishcon de Reya, are already dealing with cases. The other firms are D J Freeman, Frere Cholmeley Bischoff, Richards Butler and Bates Wells & Braithwaite.
