The three top office holders on the Law Society's council are to be paid for the first time. The exact amounts have yet to be decided but the president - or rather, his firm - is to receive broadly the salary of a High Court judge, around pounds 90,000. The vice- president's firm will receive half this amount, the deputy vice-president's a quarter. The council voted for the move amid calls for all council members or their firms to receive compensation.
