The father of Jane McEvoy, the former girlfriend of the cricketer Phil Tufnell, was yesterday charged with assault causing grevious bodily harm following an incident at Mr Tufnells' home in Palmers Green, north London.

Michael McEvoy, 50, a company director, of Winchmore Hill, was also charged with making a nuisance telephone call. On 28 April Mr Tufnell was charged with assaulting Ms McEvoy.
