A man who had threatened to kill himself died last night after a gas explosion ripped through a block of flats, police said. Gordon Thackray, 36, died in hospital 11 hours after being buried under tons of rubble when the explosion tore through the block at Keighley, West Yorkshire.

Neighbours said he had been threatening to kill himself after his girlfriend left him for another man. Three people in the flat above suffered cuts and shock as the blast destroyed the roof and side of the building.
