A Hotel worker was sacked after he shouted encouragement to a man threatening suicide by jumping from a nearby building, an industrial tribunal was told yesterday.

John Roberts, 51, was in the staff canteen at the Moat House Hotel, Liverpool, when he made the remarks. Police were at a critical stage in moves to talk down the man, the hearing was told.

Mr Roberts, a night auditor for seven years, claimed he said only 'Go on, do it then'. He lost his claim for unfair dismissal.
