A man was wounded when shots were fired as armed police staked out a sub-post office in Crouch End, north London. Another man was arrested and a third escaped.

Police said the incident happened after two men armed with pistols confronted a Royal Mail van delivering cash.

The injured man, who was shot in the chest, was in a stable condition in hospital. An investigation will be held by the Police Complaints Authority.
