Man 'thrown overboard'

A 24-year-old Algerian claiming to be a stowaway was pulled from the sea 10 miles off Dover in Kent suffering from exposure and a broken leg. He said he had been thrown overboard from a petrol tanker.

Dover coastguards, who called in a Fishery Protection aircraft to search for the tanker, said: 'We are not in a position to verify his story until we make contact with the vessel and find out their side . . .'
