The adjourned inquest into the deaths of 51 people in the 1989 Marchioness disaster will not be resumed, Dr Paul Knapman, the Westminster coroner said.
The inquest was adjourned in April 1990 at the request of the Director of Public Prosecutions because criminal proceedings were pending. Dr Knapman said an inquest by law should only be resumed after a criminal trial if there was 'sufficient cause' and he did not consider this to be the case.
